Abubakar Imam,who hails from Ilorin, the Kwara State capital,was born in the early 1970s.His father,Jimoh Imam Pakata,was an accomplished teacher,while his mother,Alhaja Awawu Amope Jimoh Pakata,is a petty trader.
After receiving both his primary and post-primary education at Ilorin,Imam proceeded to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria,from where he earned a Second Class(Upper Division) B. Sc. degree in Mass Communication in 1998. He also obtained a Masters degree in Industrial & Labour Relations(MILR) from the University of Ilorin. In 2000,he received the Abia State NYSC Award for his outstanding contributions to national development as a corps member.
This promising son of Ilorin was elected the National Publicity Secretary of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union,the umbrella sociocultural organisation of the people of Ilorin Emirate, in December, 2018.
Imam worked in the nation’s electricity industry between October, 2001 and July, 2014 in the course of which he received some awards for exceptional contributions.
This prolific journalist and community development practitioner is very passionate about Ilorin and its development. He has consequently written extensively on various aspects of developmental challenges facing Ilorin Emirate as well as several of its illustrious indigenes over the years.
